When you think of Portland, Oregon most do not think brewpubs. Or do they? Apparently Portland has quite the history of beer starting back in 1852. That is when german brewer Henry Saxer settled in Portland and opened the "Liberty Brewry". In 1856 Henry Wienhard also a young immigrant from Germany he and with his partner opened a second brewery in town named "City Brewery".
By the 1980's many brewpubs started popping up all over town. Including Bridgeport, Widmer Brothers Brewing company (who introduced America's original Hefewizen a light bodied lemon flavored wheat beer), along with one of Portland's favorites The McMenamin Breweries.
