Northwest Portland is still on of the most sought out neighborhoods. Whether your a student, artist or a business proffesional this is a great neighborhood offering something special for everyone. Close to downtown makes it easy to get there. Walk, bike, bus, trolley or jump in a taxi. This area has many older apartment buildings some have been converted into condos and are sold. What I love about some of the older buildings is that they have kept the old charm. Hardwood floors, arched doorways and ornate light fixtures. I had an apartment in NW that even had a formal dining room that had double pocket doors. It was amazing! In this area you will also find beautiful homes small to very large. In recent years some of the older homes have been torn down and replaced with row houses to accomodate more people.
There are two main walking streets in NW 21st ave and 23rd ave. 23rd is still the most traveled offering fine dining, my favorite pizza place "Escape from NY"which sells whole pies but is known for selling it by the slice (bring cash), "Papa Haydns" (known for there deserts), Mexican, Italian, too many to list. You will also find many shops. Great for gift shopping since some of the places offer one of a kind items or gems from abroad.
If you happen to go to NW, rest assured that it will be easy to navigate since the streets are alphabetical. Starting at Burnside...Couch...Davis..ect.
