I lived in the heart of downtown once and it was a wonderful experience. I remember one day I was sitting in my window sill I on the 5th floor of my apartment just enjoying the fresh air and listening to street noise, ejoying the sunny day. Then a band started playing in the distance it wasn't that far away because I could hear it pretty well. This was not a basement band. So I decided to go outside and find out what I was missing out on. The sound was coming from "Pioneer Square" (which is nicknamed the living room of Portland). That day a national band was playing a free concert and it was packed. If I hadn't been downtown I wouldn't have heard it. These type of experiences happen when you live downtown because if your like me you like to explore and see what is going on.
I also walked the park blocks which is home to many of Portland's finest museums, Schnitzer concert hall, Portland Arts Center and Portland State University. Coffee shops and little restraunts have since started popping up along this street and now the park blocks is home to the Farmers Market that has fresh local produce and handmade goodies. Open on Wednesday afternoons and Saturdays.
